One, Two, Key...

Dear Keys,

Why must you torment me so? Why are we trapped in this perpetual game of hide and seek? Why can you never stay where I left you? No one can get in and I can't get out, my house is empty and yet I can hear chuckling...I shall count to ten, ready or not, keep your place or you'll be caught...

Yours sincerely,

  1. I love the direction in which you address things and give it a character. You have a very wonderful style of writing.

I do that also, but in a different way when I write articles. I tend to describe something in a different format or character that really doesn’t have much to do with the subject. I do it to make it look colorful and I go back-and-forth with descriptions, from direct and indirect similarities to the subject.

For example, if I talk about a new line of lamps that was just released this year I would start with:

(X)switching* up to the finer things in life... Umbra has just released a new line of lamps this month to brighten* the creative space for those of you who plug-away* endless hours... blah blah blah.

that is just a quick example but I give 3* hints that describe parts of a lamp and I try to sooth the idea in and slowly pull away from the sublimination into a direct description. After that I just totally dive-in deep to the world of imagination and see the item in a different angle and give it character to animate the description. Then towards the end of the article I try to reassure the psychology behind the hinting, or just end it with a common and obvious remark that anyone can relate to (to engage the reader). Some like to ask a question at the end to engage the reader... but I try not to do this too much because it gets old and boring and sometimes people just want to read things and enjoy just reading and not feel they have been asked something (which defaults to the back of their mind ).

I also try making sure that if I write about something is because I like it, not just for the sake of writing and filling up my blog. I have to really enjoy what I write about and like the very THING I am writing about. Passion is the ignition!

I try to also make is as short as possible and not loose anyone who reads. And also try not to sound extremely TECHNICAL and BORING or give un-excessive words that can be replaced with a simple word (sure I know a lot of people like the BIG words used in books and articles, but that too me just sounds pretentious and it lacks creativity, as they mainly rely on "BIG" words :).

There are so many conscious and sub-conscious injections here-and-there we usually don't see, but they are very much there.

Anyways... my writing is more of an article/product description style VS. Yours is giving character and animation of your opinion to an every day situation. And you make it interesting and fun, all presented in a letter format (It’s like telling a short story). I really love it! I could use this kind of writing in the magazine.

I like reading colorful, animated, opinions presented in imaginative form with no hidden illusions.

I am never interesting on blogs where people gossip, complain, explain how many meals they had that day or what movie they saw and (thei thoughts behind their day) , express how annoyed they are about customer service from a store or establishment, etc, etc. And yeah sure you will get reactions... but it’s all too common and after all the common becomes stale.

Sorry for writing soooo much. But sometimes I wish I could sit down with a group of people to interact wondrous ideas about everything that falls in the CREATIVE category. A lot of people see things as BLACK & WHITE but they forget about the in-between the GRAY that is there (and yes black and white can be quite colorful).

Okay... now to end this. I really came here to thank you for your comment on my blog, I really appreciated that. Thank you and I am glad I can come here and read your blog to break-away from the UNNECESSARY that my mind likes to wonder about. Thank you!

  2. Thank you for your lovely comments about my writing, I'm pretty new to this whole blogging thing, so it's just my ramblings really, better to put it in a letter, than in your friends ear down the pub! I think what you've embarked on with your magazine must be truly overwhelming for you at times, but you've come so far, so just keep doing what you're doing and you will get there. I can imagine it must be scary. One of the sites I follow, is by an artist called Dallas Clayton, he has written "an awesome book", (by name and nature) about dreams, you should check it out. I think you probably do have a hundred voices in your ear telling you why you shouldn't put your magazine out in the world, but at the end of the day, take advice certainly, but the only voice you should really listen to, is your own. We've all forgotten how to use our instinct. I wish you every success, no matter what you decide and I'm so happy my blog provides a little break for you, that's a massive compliment and I'm very flattered, thank you.

  3. Thank you. Just when I think I have time to get back to Rice Candy something surfaces from another direction and I get consumed with other tasks extremely fast. But... yeah I came back to read your blog.
